The Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) has consulted publicly on its proposal to introduce a wholesale demand response mechanism which would allow greater opportunities for consumers to participate in the wholesale market.

We support the draft determination which will deliver benefits for individuals by helping them to directly reduce their energy costs, but also for all consumers through increased competitive pressure in the wholesale market and reduced system costs. It is important to extend this mechanism to allow residential and small business consumers to participate in the new arrangements as soon as possible, to avoid delaying the consumer benefits any longer than necessary.
