We appreciate the opportunity to comment on the Treasury Laws Amendment Bill: Amendments of the Consumer Data Right (the Bill) and the associated Explanatory Material.
As the national voice for residential and small business energy consumers, we see the Consumer Data Right (CDR) for energy as an important development for realising the objective of promoting the long-term interests of consumers. We support the draft legislation but note our concerns that the change in approach (to relocate the designation and rule-making function from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission to Treasury may lead to further delays. We are encouraged by the work by the ACCC and Treasury are undertaking in facilitating the transfer.
