Transmission Network Service Providers are monopoly service providers whose total costs – in principle – are subject to oversight of the Australian Energy Regulator and the general public through important Network Expenditure Review processes.
It is critical that TNSP costs paid by consumers are subject to this regulatory review – it helps ensure that costs are prudent and efficient. In this spirit, the proposed rule change by Energy Networks Australia to remove regulatory oversight from the AER and the general public of AEMO fees would set a dangerous precedent.
Accordingly, Energy Consumers Australia encourages the Australian Energy Market Commission to reject the rule change and ensure AEMO fees are subject to the same scrutiny as other network costs.
