Consumer Data Right for Energy: Submission

Energy Consumers Australia has responded to the Treasury’s second exposure draft of the Consumer Data Right legislation and to the ACCC’s rules Framework consultation. We have identified the availability of data for use by third party services such as comparison services and sellers of Distributed Energy Resources as an important tool in reducing household bills.

Our submission suggests clarification of the objectives included in the legislation and of the criteria the Treasurer will use in designating sectors and data sets. We also propose that for the specific case of energy consumption data the consumer should only need to transact with an accredited service provider on the condition that only information derived from the meter data (e.g. a calculation of annual bill based on consumption or saving based on DER) is presented to the consumer and that the data provided is destroyed once used to derive the information.

The full submission can be read here.
