Energy Consumers Australia (ECA) welcomes the opportunity to respond to the Energy Market Transformation Project Team (EMTPT) Energy Storage Registration: Consultation Paper (the Consultation Paper).

The EMTPT work program being undertaken for the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) Energy Council is critical to identifying and understanding the key regulatory and policy issues in the context of energy storage including safety, installation, connection, maintenance, operation, and disposal.

As the Energy Council has stated “There is currently no sufficient mechanism to register energy storage devices with relevant authorities. This information may be important in the areas of Power System Planning and Operation, Emergency Response and Safety and Industry Integrity.”
