Roadmap shows collaboration key to addressing energy and climate challenges

Energy Consumers Australia has welcomed the release of the final report of the Energy Networks Australia-CSIRO Electricity Network Transformation Roadmap.

Rosemary Sinclair, Energy Consumers Australia CEO, said the Roadmap offered a considered, long-term vision for the new energy market and how we get there.

“Energy Networks Australia and CSIRO are to be commended for facilitating an open, rigorous and forward looking process to develop the Roadmap.”

Ms Sinclair said the Roadmap was a significant contribution to the debate about how to maintain an affordable, reliable and secure energy system as we transition to a cleaner economy.

“Electricity prices have doubled in recent years and households and small businesses are investing in rooftop solar panels, batteries and other new technology to manage their energy consumption and bills.”

“Informed by their experiences in other markets, energy consumers are also increasingly wanting to share and trade electricity.”

Ms Sinclair said these trends are reshaping the role that networks will need to play in the new energy market.

“The big challenge for networks and the energy sector is how to transform to deliver the new services energy consumers want in an environment where there needs to be a laser-like on keeping costs down.”

Ms Sinclair said Energy Consumers Australia looked forward to working with Energy Networks Australia, the CSIRO and other stakeholders to translate the vision and insight in the Roadmap into outcomes for household and small business energy consumers.

Rosemary Sinclair is available for interview.
