Energy Consumers Australia is proud to open applications for the Second Gill Owen Scholarship.
The Scholarship honours Dr Gill Owen, a passionate advocate for the interests of energy consumers who passed away in August 2016.
Dr Owen was an inaugural Director of the Energy Consumers Australia Board.
The Gill Owen Scholarship reflects Dr Owen’s contribution in bringing a unique perspective on the Australian energy market, based on her own international experience.
The Scholarship supports an individual to travel internationally to research innovative ideas and initiatives that will be relevant to improving outcomes for consumers in the Australian energy market.
The CEO of Energy Consumers Australia, Rosemary Sinclair AM said today that Gill Owen was a respected policy advocate, who brought her considerable expertise and insight to energy consumer issues in both Australia and the UK.
“Dr Gill Owen had a long and influential career as a researcher and advocate on energy issues,” Ms Sinclair said.
“Her passion saw her become one of the first women to bring the voice of consumers to decision makers in the energy industry and its regulators.”
“Gill went on to establish herself as a leading thinker and a strong advocate for consumers in energy and was a strong contributor to thinking about energy in Australia over many years.”
The Gill Owen Scholarship supports an individual to travel internationally to research innovative ideas and initiatives that will be relevant to improving outcomes for consumers in the Australian energy market.
Applications for the 2020 Gill Owen Scholarship opened on 9 September 2019 and close on 8 November 2019.
The successful applicant will be announced at the Energy Consumers Australia Foresighting Forum on 19-20 February 2020.
We are pleased to be able to acknowledge Dr Gill Owen’s contribution in this way, adding to the other recognition and awards in Australia. The Gill Owen Essay Prize is again being offered by the University of Technology Sydney in 2020 and applications are now open for that award.
