Energy Consumers Australia is proud to announce the establishment of the Gill Owen International Scholarship.
Created in Gills honour, the scholarship will enable its recipient to engage globally with like-minded people on the topic of energy affordability..
As a founding board member of Energy Consumers Australia, Gill was committed to the idea of an international scholarship. With her untimely death in 2016, Energy Consumers Australia believes that this is fitting tribute to Gills passion, tireless energy and the exceptional intellect that she applied to improving outcomes for the vulnerable .
This scholarship, along with the Gill Owen Essay Prize run by the Institute for Sustainable Futures at UTS and the Gill Owen Memorial Lecture presented by the Australian Energy Regulator, as well as similar initiatives in the UK, are a testament to the professional esteem and affection in which Gill was held by all in the sector.
The ECA Board keenly feels the loss of Gill as a friend, colleague and relentless advocate for the vulnerable. This scholarship will be our way of paying tribute to Gills work, to broaden the experience and knowledge of the next generation of consumer advocates.
We will make available guidelines and the conditions for the scholarship when we announce the opening of applications in a few months time, and we look forward to working with Gills husband, David Green, as we take forward this initiative in honour of Gill.
