Submission to the Australian Energy Regulator (AER) on Evoenergy and Australian Gas Networks (SA) access arrangements 2026-2031

Evoenergy and AGN's access arrangement proposals are being made in the context of significant uncertainty regarding the future of gas, and gas distribution networks, and the broader energy transition.

Evoenergy and AGN’s access arrangement proposals set out the revenue gas distribution businesses propose to recover from consumers from 2026 to 2031.  These proposals are being made in the context of significant uncertainty regarding the future of gas, and gas distribution networks, and the broader energy transition.

Our submission to the AER makes recommendations to help ensure household and small business consumers do not bear an unfair burden of the costs and risks associated with a declining gas network, including:

  • rejecting proposals from networks to allow accelerated depreciation of gas network assets, which unfairly shifts costs and risks onto consumers
  • reducing capital expenditure to the minimum necessary
  • ensuring households and small business consumers are not required to pay for gas projects they are not likely to benefit from

We encourage the AER to carefully scrutinise the AGN and Evoenergy 2026-2031 access arrangement proposals and ensure the interests of household and small business consumers are at the centre of its decision-making.
