Submission to the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC) on Strengthening and streamlining payment difficulty protections

We strongly support the reforms contained in the Australian Energy Market Commission’s (AEMC) draft determination and consultation paper regarding the proposed rule change requests by the Australian Energy Regulator (AER).

Our submission (PDF, 370.14KB) contains responses to both the Streamlining Payment Difficulty Protections Draft Determination and the Strengthening Standards for Payment Difficulty Assistance Consultation Paper. 

These changes will build the foundations for more comprehensive reform, as outlined in the AEMC’s Payment Difficulty Review. We endorse the intent to strengthen disconnection protections and remove barriers that currently prevent consumers from receiving the support to which they are entitled.
