Energy Consumers Australia has made a joint submission with Victorian consumer advocates on the Victorian Default Offer draft decision for 2024-25.
In our submission we:
- Question whether the wholesale portion of the cost stack could be reduced further,
- Highlight the need to support customers to navigate the energy market and find affordable electricity offers,
- Remind the Essential Services Commission of the broader cost of living context and the need for energy affordability as they determine the annual price,
- Urge regulators and policymakers to examine mechanisms that complement the VDO to create real affordability.
We have also made a separate accompanying letter to the Essential Services Commission, stating our view that a transitioning energy market is complicating the role of regulated offers and the reference price.
