Energy Consumers Australia welcomes new Grattan Institute report

Energy Consumers Australia has welcomed the release today of the new Grattan Institute report, Price Shock: Is the retail electricity market failing consumers?

Rosemary Sinclair, Energy Consumers Australia CEO, said the Grattan Institute report raised important questions about whether the retail electricity market is delivering the right outcomes for consumers.

The Grattan analysis identifies features of the electricity retail market – high retail margins, complex offers and a lack of real innovation in the services – that are of real concern and need further scrutiny.

Ms Sinclair said that Energy Consumers Australia’s research indicated that after sustained price increases, households and small businesses had real concerns about whether their electricity services represented value for money.

“We agree with Grattan that retailers need to do more to cut through the complexity and do more to make sure their customers are on the best possible deal for them.”

“We need to make competition in the electricity retail market works for Australian households and small businesses.”

Rosemary Sinclair is available for interview.
