The CEO of Energy Consumers Australia has appointed David Havyatt to the position of Senior Economist, CEO Secretariat. He commenced in the role on 19 October 2015.

David has had a long and extensive career in telecommunications in sales, strategy, regulatory and public policy roles. This has included working in senior positions with a number of Australian telecommunications providers.

As well as detailed engagement in the economic regulation of access to telecommunication networks, David has led a number of industry initiatives to deliver better outcomes for consumers. These have included the delivery of number portability and the introduction of a single effective consumer protection code.

Prior to his appointment David has been operating his own consultancy since 2010 and writing about technology, innovation and the digital economy for publications including the Australian Financial Review and InnovationAus.com. This period also included two and a half years as a senior adviser to the Minister (and Shadow Minister) for Communications.

David will bring his passion for outcomes in the long term interest of consumers and his understanding of regulatory economics to assist the CEO in the development of ECA’s strategic objectives and implementation.
